How it works

Match, write, approve, send: how PodPitch works

PodPitch works in four steps: it matches you with podcasts, writes a pitch for each host, gets your approval or runs on autopilot, and sends from your email.

PodPitch searches a database of podcasts and picks the shows that match your topic. For each show it writes a personal pitch to the host. You approve each pitch, or let PodPitch run on autopilot, and every pitch is sent from your own email so replies come straight back to you.

Hi [host name],

A pitch written for this one show: why your topic fits its listeners, and what you could talk about on an episode.

Quick answers

Questions people ask about the workflow

What do I need to give PodPitch?

Your topic. Matching starts from what you talk about, because PodPitch picks shows that match your topic.

Can I check pitches before they go out?

Yes. With approval on, nothing sends until you approve it. Autopilot is a choice, not the default you are stuck with.

What is autopilot?

Autopilot lets PodPitch send pitches without waiting for you to approve each one. Matching and writing work the same way.

Where do host replies go?

To your inbox. Pitches are sent from your own email address, so a reply from a host is a normal reply to you.

The procedure

The four steps of automated podcast pitching

  1. Match: find shows that fit you

PodPitch searches a database of podcasts and picks the shows that match your topic. That list replaces hours of scrolling through podcast apps.

  2. Write: a personal pitch per host

For every matched show, PodPitch writes a pitch addressed to that host. Each one is written for its show rather than copied from a template.

    Read about personalized pitches
  3. Approve: you stay in charge

Read each pitch and approve it before it leaves. If you would rather not review every message, turn on autopilot.

  4. Send: from your own email

Approved pitches are sent from your own email address. Hosts see a message from you, and they reply to you.

Should you approve every pitch or use autopilot?

Both modes use the same matching and the same pitch writing. The only difference is whether PodPitch waits for you before it sends.

Approval suits you if you want to read every message that goes out under your name, for example while you are getting a feel for how PodPitch writes about your topic. Autopilot suits you if you are happy with the pitches and would rather spend your time on the interviews than on reviewing email.

You can choose the mode that fits how hands on you want to be.

Why the workflow runs in this order

A good pitch depends on a good match. Writing a careful email to a show whose listeners do not care about your topic wastes your time and the host's. So PodPitch matches first, then writes for each show it picked.

Approval sits between writing and sending because it is your name on the message. Sending comes last, from your own address, so the conversation that follows is a normal conversation between you and the host.
